Currently trading in the United States, United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Australia & New Zealand, the ThinkSmart business was established in Australia 1996, recognising a gap in the market for meeting the needs of small businesses and retailers with a fast, fuss free finance solution that would enable businesses to get finance for the IT equipment they needed on-the-spot.
ThinkSmart’s initial product offering – the “RentSmart” rental finance product – worked for the small business customer because it gave them instant on-the-spot finance for vital business equipment, delivering tax and cash flow advantages whilst providing a flexible path for keeping up to date with technology.
Similarly it worked for the retail industry too, providing a fast effective way to service the B2B community who typically purchase more equipment on rental than they would on a cash deal.
The product quickly took hold in Australia and its success saw ThinkSmart ranked in the top 100 fastest growing business listing by BRW magazine for four years in succession.
It also saw ThinkSmart's Founder and CEO, Ned Montarello, receive the National Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 1998 in recognition of the work he had achieved in pioneering this new market.
In 2003 ThinkSmart expanded into the European market through an exclusive agreement with chains in the £7.391bn DSG International group, Europe's largest electrical retailer. The business is expanding with DSG in Europe operating with its UK, Spanish and Italian computer retailing stores and has also expanded into France via a relationship with Societe Generale.
ThinkSmart launched in the US in April 2008 through an agreement with Office Depot, a leading global provider of office products and services.
